Procrastination a la pelmet

Wow.. nearly 9 months later! even more dinners cooked, a new job a new college course, many gigs performed and too many other things to list.

Ta da... here are the pics of a project that spanned a ridiculous amount of time, but worth the end result.

First miles of piping stitched .
Then the 2 fabrics joined.. The Bay leaf yellow fabric was bought on e-bay and it turned out there wasnt quite enough for the width of the windows so I sourced a complimentary colour to add side panels. Luckily i managed to find a paint that was an almsot exact match to the red for the top of the picture rail.

Then added interlinining and a top lining for extra luxurious curtains.

Hang up and leave to 'drop' for far too long ;-)

Then got my Son who is handy with wood to cut a fancy pelmet.

The pelmet was taken to a curtain shop and they cut 2 inch foam to fit exactly. Glued that on and then took it home to upholster. First with curtain lining and a ton of staples, then the red fabric stretched over that with more staples, then a lining cut and hand sewn.. bloody hard work! not sure i will do that bit again. Then finally finsihed off with tiny tiny hand sewn golden cord just round the inside edge.

The finished results..

Next house project will be a bedroom swap.. 2 rooms will be decorated and whole lot of furniture shifted around. Im planning on having lilac and cream walls and i want to have a go at creating french style white furniture..you know those wardrobes with all the fancy carving on them ..well i think ive come up with a way to make them quite cheaply by scouring junk shops for knackered old wardrobes and buying ready made wood pediments and various ornate carved pieces to stick on and then do a white painted distressed effect.
see you in a couple of years!
